Designer Leanne Kilroy, who you might know better as @goodboneslondon, has one of those ultra-cozy houses you wish you could jump through your phone to hang out in. Her kitchen is practically all windows, with plants climbing every surface, and the primary suite (which we featured on Domino) is a total romantic getaway. Even the laundry room is a little oasis! Leanne might be an ex-pat, but she’s got the cozy-but-sophisticated British aesthetic down pat. Needless to say, I was eager to find out what’s grabbing her attention and it turns out she’s having a mindmeld with fellow U.K.-based designer and guest editor Lonika Chande... —Lindsey Mather, digital director

What I’m loving right now: Glossy, polished, mirror-finish metals. Chrome! Nickel! Silver! Brass! Stainless steel! Mixed metals! I’ve always been drawn to shiny things (I think there’s an old saying about a magpie in there somewhere) and have loved polished brass forever, but the cooler metals like polished chrome and nickel have grown on me hard and fast. Especially in these darker months, a bit of shine goes a long way.

Three real-life ways I’d try it:

  • Don’t be afraid to mix metals, especially in a kitchen (see mine above left). I splurged on polished gold knobs and handles for our new stainless steel range and I’m so glad I did. Now I just need an Our Place pan in chrome and gold to go on top.

  • Dressing a dinner table or mantlepiece with polished metal candlesticks, platters, and accessories like matchboxes and condiment holders helps illuminate dark evenings and will never go out of style. Leo Costelloe’s brass ribbon candleholders are truly a thing of beauty (above right).

  • I’ve decorated the walls of our tiny downstairs loo with polished silver ex voto to brighten up the windowless space.

  1. I turn to Skultuna whenever I need a special gift. This polished candle sconce—which comes in brass and silver plated—is a forever favorite of mine.
