You know how chocolate brown is the color of the moment? It’s actually been percolating since last fall. Before the hue hit our homes, you might remember that it dominated our bags and coats first. More often than not, the decor trends we cover at Domino start on the runways. So it’s part of my job (and also just fun) to keep up with what’s going on in the fashion world just as much as in our design community.
One of my must-reads is writer Erika Veurink’s Long Live newsletter. A style icon in her own right, she shares a lot of incredible secondhand clothing finds, but she also has a sixth sense for what’s about to be everywhere (is Vera Bradley going to make a comeback?!). I obviously had to ask Erika for her predictions for our spaces and she did not disappoint. —Lindsey Mather, digital director

What I’m loving: Blue and brown everywhere. This was my favorite color combination as a kid, so I’m particularly drawn to it as a grown up. It’s blue at its least preppy. I love how laidback it feels and the way it makes any room feel cozier upon arrival.

How I’d bring the look home:
Experiment with a tablescape. I always have a massive spool of pale blue velvet ribbon (I tied it around my wedding flowers) on hand, so I’d use some to embellish a terracotta vase.
Bath linens. I bought a blue and brown towel in Copenhagen on my honeymoon a few years ago before I was even convinced I was ready to embrace the combination.
Try it in an outfit first. It can be as simple as a brown sweater with light blue jeans.
Vintage stoneware mugs with baby blue interiors.
